Engineer Rashid granted interim bail in ‘militancy- funding’ case

Delhi’s Patiala House Court has granted interim bail to Sheikh Rashid, also known as Engineer Rashid, a Member of Parliament from Jammu Kashmir’s Baramulla constituency, until October 2.

Rashid, who has been in Delhi’s Tihar Jail since 2019, was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2017 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in connection with a 2017 militancy- funding case.

Rashid’s name surfaced during the investigation into Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Watali, who was arrested for allegedly financing terror groups and separatists in Kashmir.

The NIA’s chargesheet included several others, such as Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik, Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed, and Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin. Yasin Malik was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2022 after pleading guilty.
