As the covid positive cases are continuously increasing across Jammu Kashmir (J&K), in an exclusive interview of Doctors Association of Kashmir president, Dr. Nisar Ul Hassan, spoke to The Kashmiriyat and raised some key points regarding the second wave of covid 19.
“Young people are reported to be covid positive in the second wave, it’s not only infectious but lethal too,” The DAK president told The Kashmiriyat. DAK president, Dr Nisar ul Hassan further said that the virus has changed now. It’s mutating very significantly.
About the mutant, he said that when genetic testing to the covid positive patients is done, the results can tell whether the new variant exists here or not.
Mr. Nisar said that Kashmir is facing a shortage of essential drugs and the onus is upon the admin. “They should avail the drugs in Government hospitals and free of cost.”
Answering on the preparedness of hospitals in Kashmir, he added that there is a lack of intensive care unit beds (ICU) for combating the virus. “We don’t have many ICU beds and ventilators in the valley, we need more dedicated ICU beds and ventilators to save covid patients from dying,” he told The Kashmiriyat.
He also added that the first wave of covid taught us a lesson, so the administration should have been prepared for the second wave. And moreover, people are not following covid 19 protocols, and if the situation continues to be like this, the administration should impose a lockdown, at least for two weeks till the positive cases are down from the graph.
On being asked about the mistrust of people regarding covid vaccination, he said that the best way is to vaccine as early as possible to boost the immune system against this deadly virus. Further, it’s the responsibility of the administration and health departments to build up trust among the people.
