Most Parts of South Kashmir on Tuesday observed a complete shutdown amid restrictions in South Kashmir’s Islamabad District on the eve of the martyrdom anniversary of slain Mirwaiz of South Kashmir, Dr. Qazi Nisar Ahmed. The Call for shutdown had been called by the Mirwaiz of South Kashmir Qazi Ahmed Yasir.
Despite nocturnal raids at his house, office and the residences of his associates, Mirwaiz Qazi Ahmed Yasir evaded arrest and appeared at historical Jamia Masjid of Islamabad where people had already gathered for a rally called from Jamia Masjid to Dialgam after Zuhr Prayers. The Police had locked all the gates of the Jamia Masjid and Aastan e Aliya, Ummat e Islami activists broke the locks.
Common people, Lawyers, Hurriyat Activists including the activists of Hurriyat (G), JKLF, Hurriyat (M), Mahaz e Azadi, Tehreek e Mazahmat, and prominent faces including Fayaz Ahmed Sodagar addressed the gathering to pay tributes to the slain Mirwaiz of South Kashmir, Mufti Nasir ul Islam was arrested on the way to Islamabad while many leaders were put under house arrest. The vehicles of Ummat e Islami activists trying to enter Islamabad were also turned back.
Mirwaiz Qazi Ahmed Yasir in his address paid glowing tributes to Dr. Qazi Ahmed Nisar and said that the resolution of Kashmir issue is the foremost hindrance to peace in South Asia, so all South Asian neighbours must take up the issue of Kashmir and press India for a resolution of the issue. “India cannot hold Kashmiris with chains for a long, we have proved it time and again in history that we will never bow,” Mirwaiz Yasir said.
He expressed thankfulness to Pakistan who tirelessly pleaded the Kashmir issue to International Platforms and because of their efforts and the relentless non giving up approach of Kashmiri nation, the United Nations finally is taking the case seriously. He thanked the people and Media of Pakistan who have been telling a counter narrative to the world against the Propagandist Indian media.
Mirwaiz Qazi Ahmed Yasir called for an end to bloodshed saying that enough blood of innocent civilians is being lost and said everyday is a 19th June for us. Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir paid glowing tributes to slain Dr. Qazi Nisar saying that he had given up all his dreams for the people of Kashmir other than being the founder of Muslim United Front. “Time and Again he proved, he needed nothing, but the goodness of his own people,” Mirwaiz Yasir said. He said that the nation is indebted to the young blood, both Militants and civilians who are sacrificing their blood of the cause of Kashmiri people.
Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir thanked the people of South Kashmir for observing a complete shutdown today. He also thanked the Transporters, Businessmen, School owners and general public for observing a shutdown.
Later when the rally tried to march towards Dialgam, the police used force to disperse the protesters and Mirwaiz Qazi yasir was taken into detention with at least 5 associates. later Minor clashes also broke out.
Ummat e Islami at last addressed a press and asked people to support the program including a Blood Donation camp on 23 June and Grand Freedom Rally from Jamia Masjid on June 22.
