A man posing as a cardiologist from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) was caught near the Associated Hospital of Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla after locals and chemists grew suspicious of his claims, GNS reported.
Identified as Abdul Razak Khan, the imposter approached a chemist shop in Baramulla town, introducing himself as a senior cardiologist from AIIMS and requesting money for fuel in exchange for medical services. When denied, he attempted to secure a space for private practice near GMC Baramulla. His behavior raised concerns, prompting locals to verify his credentials.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Khan hails from Rajouri, Jammu, and has only studied up to the 12th grade. A police official confirmed that an investigation is underway, emphasizing the risks such frauds pose to public health.
The incident has sparked discussions about the need for stricter verification of medical practitioners, with residents urging authorities to take preventive measures against similar scams.
