In a shocking development that has deeply affected communities across India and sparked solidarity protests by doctors nationwide, the parents of a trainee doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, have made serious allegations.
They claim that insiders at the hospital were involved in the crime, according to a report by Business Today.
The family has reportedly provided the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) with the names of several interns and physicians whom they believe are connected to the tragic incident.
These allegations have introduced new dimensions to the investigation that was ordered by the Calcutta High Court.
A CBI officer confirmed that, following the parents’ suspicions about the involvement of multiple individuals in their daughter’s death, the agency has begun questioning those identified, including some officers from the Kolkata Police who were initially handling the case.
The CBI has identified at least 30 suspects and has started interrogating them.
Among those summoned by the CBI are a house staff member and two postgraduate trainees who were on duty with the deceased doctor on the night she was found dead.
Additionally, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the hospital, has also been questioned. Dr. Ghosh resigned just two days after the doctor’s body was discovered, citing concerns for his safety and requesting protection from the Calcutta High Court.
The CBI has used advanced 3D technology to recreate the crime scene in the seminar hall of the hospital where the doctor’s body was found on August 9.
This reconstruction involved a civic volunteer who has been arrested and is one of the accused.
As the investigation unfolds, political tensions have risen.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused the opposition of inciting unrest at the hospital and spreading misinformation about the case.
At a recent rally, she condemned the dissemination of fake news and called for accountability.
In response, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia criticized the opposition alliance, INDIA, accusing its leaders of selective outrage for political gain.
He warned that their silence on the issue would have significant repercussions and asserted that the CBI would ensure justice is served, irrespective of political affiliations.
