Farooq Abdullah re-elected unopposed as NC president

Veteran Kashmiri politician and the former chief minister of Jammu Kashmir,  Dr Farooq Abdullah was on Monday re-elected as president of Jammu Kashmir National Conference.

Attended by thousands of people, the party presidential polls were held today at the party head office Nawa-e-Subh in Srinagar.

Dr Farooq who was re-elected unopposed as party president was felicitate by party workers and leaders who had thronged the party headquarters in Srinagar.

Party’s spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar confirming the development said, “Dr Farooq Abdullah has been re-elected as JKNC President in today’s delegate session at Dargah Hazratbal. Party delegates from both provinces of Jammu, Kashmir unanimously nominated only one name – Dr Farooq Sb to continue as Party President.”

The party elections were held on the birth anniversary of Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah- the party’s founder.

Addressing the gathering Party’s vice president Omar Abdullah said, “Our fight is not for seats or against the Bhartiya Janta Party. our fight is for the people of Jammu Kashmir and the restoration of the rights of Kashmiris.”

He said that it was unfortunate that New Delhi’s policy making regarding Kashmir has undergone such a tectonic shift. “Earlier the decisions were made keeping Kashmir’s security and people in view, however, the decisions are now made keeping in view BJP’s interests. Any decision taken is weighed on the loss or the profit it would make to BJP in Jammu Kashmir,” Omar Abdullah said.

Paying tributes to Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah, he said,  “Sheikh sahab led the people of Jammu Kashmir in the fight against oppression, disempowerment and  poverty. His name cannot be erased from the hearts of Kashmiris, no matter how hard the enemies of Kashmir try. He rule the hearts for centuries to come.”
