Two years after the abrogation of special status of Jammu Kashmir on August 05, 2019, as political activities have picked up in Kashmir, pro-establishment groups have started organizing public meetings at various tehsil and district levels of the valley.
With these meetings, the strength-show is gaining the central stage. Amid this political hustle-bustle, a heart-wrenching story of an old woman emerged from Bandipora where a hundred year old woman attended a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rally in Baniyari village to get her son, who had been languishing in jail for the past 10 years, released.

Months after Fazli Begum alleged that some “Jan Sahab of BJP” has promised her that her son would be released if she attends the BJP rally that was addressed by the BJP national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain, a man from Srinagar has said that he was made a similar promise by an Apni Party leader who asked him (Altaf) to meet him (Apni Party leader) at his home in Srinagar and he will get his son shifted to Srinagar Jail.
His son, Danish Altaf Malik (aged 19 at the time of his arrest), according to his family is lodged at a jail in Karnal, Haryana since a year and and a half. Danish has been booked under the draconian Public Safety Act.
Tired doing rounds of the courts, Altaf Ahmed Malik said that he approached one Matoo Sahab, a member of Apni Party for getting Danish shifted to Srinagar’s central jail.
“I have knocked at all the doors but have been unable to get justice. When I met my son, he seemed frail. He is losing his eyesight. I could not stand that sight of him,” Altaf Malik told The Kashmiriyat. He said that he made number of attempts to get his son shifted back to Kashmir, however, to no avail.
Danish, as per his family, has been hit by pellets in his eye in the year 2013 and has been undergoing treatment since.
Danish’s uncle Firdous Ahmed Malik told The Kashmiriyat, “Matoo invited us to meet him in connection with the release of my nephew. When we went there, a meeting of Apni Party going on. We were completely unaware about the meeting and after some time, our pictures with the news of us joining the party went viral on social networking site Facebook. It was quite shocking for all of us because we went there to seek help for our kin.”
The Kashmiriyat tried to contact the Apni Party Chief, Altaf Bukhari, however he was not available for comments.
The story will be updated if we hear from the Apni Party Chief.
