Kashmiris in Jammu fearing attacks from Locals mobs in Jammu, have evacuated to nearby mosques in large groups, as violence erupted in the region on Friday.
A Kulgam resident working in Jammu told The Kashmiriyat over phone that locals from areas like Gujjar Nagar, Channi, Talab Tiloo, Janipur, Rehari, Bakshi Nagar have moved into mosques and will spend the entire night there.
“The entire day was a total frenzy, people are scared, nobody wants to go out, but it is the fear of night, they barged into our locality twice, threatening to kill us, so we decided to spend dozens of families here decided to spend the night together in a nearby Masjid,” he said.
The Residents appealed the Police and the Governor for providing protection to the Kashmir families in Jammu.
Students residing in Patoli area of Jammu also said that a violent mob at YCET College after the attack, post which they have locked themselves in their rooms and also have restricted their movement.
The series of protests against Kashmiris in Jammu began earlier this week, when a mob allegedly asked Kashmiri youth to sing the Indian National song, ‘Vande Mataram.’ The protest took a new twist, When a Fidayeen militant rammed a car into CRPF convoy, killing at least fourty of its men.
Earlier on Friday morning, Dozens of Kashmiri vehicles were burnt down by protesters in Gujjar Nagar area of Jammu. Raising anti Kashmir and anti Pakistan Slogans, hundreds of Jammu people poured onto the streets of Jammu on Friday Morning.
Eyewitnesses said that the protesters raised slogans against Kashmir Militants including Burhan Wani, Sameer Tiger and many others and raised slogans like Kashmir Ke Gadaro Ko, Goli Maaro Saalo Ko and Bharat Mai jisko Rehna hai, vande Mataram Kehna hai.
The Police had announced Curfew, however people are still out on the streets of Jammu raising Anti Kashmir slogans.
Politicians including the former chief Ministers have appealed the people to keep calm.
