On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security meeting on Jammu and Kashmir to review the security arrangements for the upcoming Shri Amarnath pilgrimage and the current security situation in Jammu following recent attacks.
Shah directed Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and senior security officials to eradicate emerging terrorism in the Jammu region and ensure a robust security cover for the Yatra.
The meeting, held in New Delhi, included key officials such as Army Chief General Manoj Pandey, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, CRPF Director General Anish Dayal Singh, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. J&K representatives included LG Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Atal Duloo, DGP RR Swain, and ADGP Vijay Kumar.
Quoting unknown sources, local news agency- Kashmir News Observed said that Shah requested a detailed report on the security situation in Jammu due to recent attacks and stressed the need for strict action against militants and their supporters. He emphasized the importance of securing highways and sensitive points to protect the movement of security forces and pilgrims.
Shah also called for a multi-layered security plan for the Amarnath Yatra, which will run from June 29 to August 19, to ensure the safety of all pilgrims. The meeting discussed measures to secure tourist spots and prevent potential militant attacks.
Expressing satisfaction with the peaceful situation in Kashmir and a reduction in local militant recruitment, Shah commended security agencies for the successful conduct of recent elections in the region. This meeting follows a similar security review chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
