CPI(M)’s general secretary Sitaram Yechury’s eldest son Ashish Yechury (34) has passed away due to Covid-19, this Thursday. Ashish had been battling with the virus since the past two weeks at Gurgaon’s Medanta Hospital. It is said that he was recovering well, hence his sudden death early morning came as a shock.
“It is with great sadness that I have to inform that I lost my elder son, Ashish Yechury to COVID-19 this morning. I want to thank all those who gave us hope and who treated him – doctors, nurses, frontline health workers, sanitation workers and innumerable others who stood by us,” Yechury tweeted.
Ashish was a journalist by profession and would have turned 35 this June. His colleagues at News Laundry extended their condolences by remembering him as a warm, gentle, talented friend and a colleague. Ashish was in ICU since the 12th of April, after the infection had spread to his lungs.
Various political leaders have extended their condolences to Yechury on his loss. The PM, Narendra Modi, wrote on Twitter, “Condolences to Shri Sitaram Yechury Ji and his family on the tragic and untimely demise of his son, Ashish. Om Shanti.”
INC member Shashi Tharoor, too, paid his condolence to Yechury and wife Seema Chishti, via Twitter, “Devastated by the news @SitaramYechury @seemay. There is no greater loss for a parent to endure. May you find the strength to bear the inexpressible grief of your loss. My heart goes out to you at this painful time.”
DMK President, MK Stalin consoled Yechury by tweeting, “Deeply saddened and pained to hear about the loss of Ashish Yechury. I offer my heartfelt condolences to Comrade @SitaramYechury, his family and friends at this difficult time.”
Meanwhile, another Journalist named Chanchal Pal Chouhan is among the five deceased. Three Journalists from Telengana also died of the virus.
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued a statement expressing condolences on the demise of Ashish Yechury, son of Sitaram Yechury and Indrani
Mazumdar. He died of Covid related complications. He was 35 years old.
The Polit Bureau conveys its deepest condolences to Sitaram and Indrani, his wife Swati, his sister Akhila and all other members of the bereaved family.
