Five militants were killed during the encounter that started on Thursday between militants and government forces in the Samnoo area of Kulgam.
The encounter that continued overnight ended with the killing of five militants who are yet to be identified, officials said.
Sources told The Kashmiriyat that out of the five slain, four are from the Shopian district of south Kashmir and one is from Kulgam.
They identified the slain as Sameer Ahmad Sheikh, Yasir Bhat, Danish Thokar, Hanzallah Yaqoob and Ubaid Paddar.
According to officials Sameer Ahmed Sheikh son of Farooq Ahmad a resident of Check Chollen Shopian had joined PAFF on 03 August 2021.
Yasir Bhat Song of Bilal Ahmad, a resident of Wanpoh Kulgam had joined TRF on 5 May 2022, they told The Kashmiriyat.
They said that Danish Ahmad son of Abdul Hameed Thokar, a resident of Chakoora Shopian was active since 23 March, 2023 and was associated with TRF.
A resident of Rawalpora Shopian, Hunzallah son of Mohammed Yaqoob Shah was affiliated with militant outfit TRF since 13 July 2023.
They said that Ubaid Ahmed son of Wali Mohammed Padder, a resident of Chakoora Shopian was active since 11September 2022.
Meanwhile locals told The Kashmiriyat that two structures have been damaged during the encounter while the bodies of the slain have been retrieved from the site of the encounter.
The operation was jointly launched by 34 RR of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF on Thursday evening.
An army official pressent at the site of encounter spoke to The Kashmiriyat and said that incriminating materials had been recovered from the slain militants.
He said that the encounter at Samnoo was One of the biggest operation in Kashmir this year after the operation in Machil Sector of Kupwara.
