At least five residential houses were gutted in a fire mishap at Buchoo Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
Confirming the incident, an official said that the fire broke out from a residential house and later engulfed the nearby residential structures as well.
“Following the incident, the firefighters and locals rushed to the spot and doused the flames. However, five houses were damaged in the massive blaze in this incident,” the official told The Kashmiriyat.
He said that the properties worth lacs of rupees were completely gutted in the blaze, adding, “The cause of the fire is said to be a short circuit, but thankfully, there was no report of any loss of life or injury during the incident.”
The houses damaged in the fire mishap were owned by Ghulam Mohammed Mochi, son of Ghulam Nabi Mochi, Mohammed Rafiq Mochi son of Ghulam Nabi, Mohd Shafi Mochi son of Sonaullah Mochi, – Ab Rashid Mochi son of Abdul Ahad Mochi and Ghulam Mohammed Mochi son of Abdul Ahad Mochi all residents of Buchoo Dooru.
Locals speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that they have approached the PDD department to remove High tension lines that run close to residential houses, however, their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.
Early morning on Tuesday, DDC Contestant Member Advocate Mohammad Saleem Parray visited the spot and appealed to the administration to compensate the families.
