Flash floods, heavy rainfall on Jammu Kashmir for next 3 days, MeT issues advisory

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a fresh weather advisory predicting a range of extreme weather conditions over the next three days.

The forecast includes the possibility of flash floods, cloudbursts, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas of Jammu Kashmir, along with heavy rainfall in select locations.

The advisory highlights the expectation of intense showers at various times, with a significant risk of flash floods, cloudbursts, and landslides, particularly in sensitive regions. Heavy rainfall is also anticipated in some areas during this period.

From August 5th to 7th, brief spells of rain and thunderstorms are likely during the daytime, with light to moderate rain expected at many locations across Jammu and Kashmir during the night and early morning hours.

Between August 8th and 10th, scattered places in the Kashmir division are predicted to experience brief showers during the day, while the Jammu division will see similar weather conditions mainly during late night and early morning.

From August 11th to 13th, there is a potential for brief rain and thunderstorms at scattered locations in the Kashmir division and more widespread areas in the Jammu division.

The advisory also notes that rain and thunderstorms are expected over parts of Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora, Gulmarg, the hilly areas of Budgam, Tral, Pahalgam, Shopian, and Kulgam districts in the next 2-3 hours.

Intense showers could lead to flash floods in the hilly areas of Baramulla, Kupwara, and Budgam districts, MeT has said.
