‘Forced to construct tubewells’, Locals stage protest in Pattan against non-availability of drinking water

Scores of residents of Baramulla district in north Kashmir on Monday staged a protest against the nonavailability of water in their area.

Locals told The Kashmiriyat that residents of the Khambiyar area in Baramulla’s Pattan area hit the streets to protest against PHE- the Department fr responsible for water supplies in Kashmir.

They said that female protestors raising slogans against the department demanded immediate restoration of the water supply.

“For the last month, there has been an acute shortage of drinking water supply in the Khambiyar area which has forced us to resort to constructing tube wells. We are facing severe hardships due to the water issue,” said a female protestor.

She said that the locals have met several officials, however, their pleas have gone unaddressed. The locals said that the non-seriousness of the admin forced them to block roads on Monday morning.

The Baramulla – Srinagar national highway was blocked for several minutes by the protestors before the Police and civil administration reached on the spot and pacified the protestors.
