Fresh forest fires have been reported in Compartment 32 of Watoo and Compartment 34 of Manzgam areas in Kulgam district, with officials saying efforts are underway to control the flames.
“We have deployed teams to contain the fire, but the dry weather and strong winds are making it difficult,” said a forest official in Manzgam. “Our priority is to prevent it from spreading to nearby habitations.”
Another official from Watoo described the situation as challenging. “We have mobilized all available resources. Local volunteers have also stepped in to help, which is crucial in such situations,” he said.
The cause of the fire remains unclear, but authorities suspect dry conditions and human activity could be contributing factors.
The fresh blaze comes as officials in Pahalgam continue their efforts to control fires that broke out in multiple forest areas of Aishmuqam, including Wajroo, Budroo, Kathsoo, Sofipora, Kullar, and Grend.
Officials had told The Kashmiriyat that 80-90 percent of the fire has been brought under control.
