Four army men were killed and several injured when militants attacked a party of Indian army in Kathua.
News agency Press Trust of India reported that militants targeted a patrolling party of army near Badnota area, leaving four troopers dead.
The injured have been shifted to Sub-district Hospital Billawar for advanced treatment,
Soon after the attack, reinforcement of Police and army were rushed to the area and a massive cordon and search operation have been launched to nab the attackers.
As per reports the militants initiated the attack with grenades followed by gunfire, prompting a fierce retaliation from security forces.
Despite efforts to apprehend the attackers, they managed to escape into nearby forests, leading to ongoing intermittent exchanges of fire between the militants and security personnel.
The Jammu region has seen a massive upsurge in militancy related violence in the past few months, which has resulted into deaths of several forces personnel and civilians.
