Fulfill demands of J-K daily wage employees: MP Hasnain Masoodi in Lok Sabha

NC leader and Member of Parliament for South Kashmir raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir’s daily wagers and contractual employees in the Lok Sabha and demanded their permanency.

NC Leader and MP Hasnain Masoodi while highlighting the plight of more than 60,000 contract workers, contingent paid workers (CPW), HDF (Hospital Development Fund) workers, ad hoc workers, CIC operators, home guards, tribal seasons school teachers, Samagra Shiksha Zonal coordinators, Contractual Lecturers, Contractual Health Workers and Rasha Works, said that the mentioned temporary employees have been sweating hard for decades in various departments of Jammu and Kashmir.

These temporary employees from Jal Shakti, PDD, Health and Education, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Departments etc. are hired on the basis of need and are paid meager wages.

The constant protest of these temporary employees has been ignored for a long time. They were demanding permanency and removal of pay disparity under low wages.

The attitude of the local government towards these temporary workers has been disappointing and they are not getting any concrete responses, he said.

Masoodi said that “I strongly request the government to fulfill the demands of temporary workers working on daily wages.” A reasonable plan should be drawn up for their perpetuation, they should be absorbed as permanent employees in government departments and orders should be issued to provide them with minimum wage salaries, he said.

Expressing deep anger over the sacking of ATM guards, he said that the ruling government is increasing the record-breaking unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir instead of ending it.

He further said that at present the rate of unemployment in the country is 8%, in Jammu and Kashmir this rate has exceeded 18%. “In such a situation it was the responsibility of the government to create employment opportunities for the unemployed youth, but here it was the opposite,” he said.(CNI)
