Ganderbal social worker campaigns door to door in remote areas raising awareness on Women rights

Amid the rise in suicide cases across the Kashmir valley, Bilal Bhat has been constantly campaigning and motivating youth to help them stay away from the menace of suicide.

Bhat, who holds a Computer Application Degree and a Bachelor’s degree in Education has also done post-graduate work in both Commerce and Disaster Management. He is also pursuing Masters in Social Work.

The 37-year-old resident of Tullmulla area in Ganderbal, has organized thousands of seminars, public meetings, programmes, and camps with various stakeholders and has been visiting door to door in villages and remote tehsils of different districts, especially women living in remote areas, and sensitize them about their rights.

He started his social Work journey in 2009 as a motivational speaker. Today he is a national campaigner associated with J-K Women Helpline (WHL)-181 since 2018. WHL is a Project of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India implemented by the Department of Social Welfare Jammu Kashmir.

Bilal is campaigning on Centrally sponsored schemes of the Department of Social Welfare Jammu Kashmir and claims that he has reached more than 5.50 Lakh women with the message “Break Your Silence Raise Your Voice, Suicide is not a Solution,” across Jammu Kashmir. He focuses his outreach especially in the far-flung areas of Baramulla-Uri , Kupwara, Kulgam, Pulwama, Handwara, Drass -Kargil, Sonamarg, and Ganderbal.

He said that he voluntarily assists the Administration, Health Department, Rural Department, Panchayat Raj Members and other Departments time to time in terms of Awareness, Support, Guidance, Cooperation and more.

Often raising & sensitizing people in local buses, bus stops, public places, hospitals & other public locations, his motive is to contribute himself voluntarily for the society.

Bilal Bhat said that he has always been sensitive to the community’s needs, especially women who are facing Domestic Violence, Sexual harassment, eve-teasing, cyber-crime, dowry abuse, etc. He has for many years raised awareness about the centrally sponsored schemes of the Department of Social Welfare Jammu Kashmir that work to address these needs.

During chilling & cold Winter of 2022-2023, he launched a special campaign in the far-flung areas of Sonamarg, Chattergul, Margund, Rawil, Kullon, Wangat, Gutlibagh, Babawayil, Bala Gujrat, Chattergul, and Babareshi, in central Kashmir Ganderbal District.

Bilal Bhat is a State Awardee by the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Jammu Kashmir. On 8th March, International Women’s Day, 2022, he was named Best Campaigner cum Motivational Speaker against reaching across the Jammu Kashmir with different Schemes of Ministry of Women and Child Development for the Government of India.

Bilal Bhat has also been awarded by World Book of Records London UK.

The District Administration Ganderbal has also nominated him as Campaigner cum active member for Nasha Mukth Abayan and Internal Sexual Harassment Committee.
