GDC Hyderpora renamed after eminent Poet, Moti Lal Saqi

The name of the Government Degree College, Hyderpora was changed during a name changing ceremony presided over by the Principal of the Institution.

Several local residents and senior citizens participated in the event along with the staff members of the college.

Accoding to news agency Kashmir Dot Com the college has been renamed after the eminent Poet, writer, folklorist, researcher Moti Lal Saqi as per the directions of the government order.

Speaking on the occasion, the Principal threw light on the life of Moti Lal Saqi and emphasized that Saqi’s contribution as a literary critic is impressive, his work on Sheikh Nur-ud-Din Wali (RAH), and the Sufi poets like Samad Mir is monumental.

The Principal also described Saqi as a folklorist, and contended that his compilation of five volumes of Kashmiri-folk songs suggests his love for Kashmir and a great contribution to Kashmiri literary paradigm.

The Residents and eminent persons participating in the event praised the move and saw the change as a cultural revival of Kashmir and lauded the efforts of the institution to mark this change.

The ceremony concluded with the vote of thanks by Prof. Rakshanda Lateef.  (KDC)
