The Jammu Kashmir Police, in a series of tweets, has denounced the claims of the family of deceased Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani who died after a prolonged illness on Wednesday night.
Kashmir Police zone, on its Twitter, wrote, “After the death of SAS Geelani, Inspector General of Jammu Kashmir Police, Vijay Kumar along with SP & ASP met both of his sons at their residence at 11 pm, condoled them & requested for burial in the night for the larger interest of general public due to potential major Law and order situations.”

The family of the deceased leader had said that the body of their father was snatched and nobody from the family was allowed to participate in the last rites of their deceased father.
“Both the children agreed and asked to wait for two hours until relatives reach. IGP Kashmir personally spoke to a few relatives and ensured them of safe passage,” the Police claimed.
The further said, “However, 3hrs later probably under the pressure from Pakistan & miscreants they behaved differently & started resorting to anti-national activities including wrapping the dead body in the Pakistani flag, making loud sloganeering in favour of Pakistan and instigating neighbours to come out.”
The Jammu Kashmir Police claimed that after persuasion the relatives brought the dead body to the graveyard and performed last rites with due respect in presence of the members of the Intizamia Committee and local Imam. The refusal of both his sons to come to the graveyard indicated their loyalty to the Pakistani agenda rather than their love & respect for their departed father.
On its official Twitter handle, the Police also released videos of Geelani’s funeral prayers and the abolution (Ghusul) of the senior Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
Several people, however criticized the Police for uploading the videos, as several journalists who went to cover the last rites of the deceased Hurriyat leader were barred from doing so.
