General Bipin Rawat Among the Dead in Chopper Crash in TN

Chief of Defence Staff India, General Bipin Rawat is among the eleven persons who died in the chopper crash on Wednesday afternoon in Tamil Nadu.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Indian Air Force confirmed that General Rawat was on board an IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter that met with an accident while going from Sulur to Wellington in Tamil Nadu.

As soon as the crash occurred, Locals rushed to the spot and informed the Police, after which emergency teams including health and rescue teams reached the spot.

The Indian Air Force on Wednesday confirmed the news of his death saying, “Gen Bipin Rawat, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) was on a visit to Defence Services Staff College, Wellington (Nilgiri Hills) to address the faculty and student officers of the Staff Course today.”

The IAF said that around noon today, an IAF Mi 17 V5 helicopter with a crew of 4 members carrying the CDS and 9 other passengers met with a tragic accident near Coonoor, TN.

“With deep regret, it has now been ascertained that Gen Bipin Rawat, Mrs Madhulika Rawat and 11 other persons on board have died in the unfortunate accident, ” Indian Air Force tweeted.
