Students of Government Medical College (GMC) in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district are aghast over the non-availability of bus and hostel facilities.
Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, the students said that they have approached the management several times, but their demands have not been heard during the last four years, causing immense suffering to the students.
“The library and the laboratory blocks are GMC Baramulla are still incomplete. The college has not provided any buses to the students. The non-availability of buses has forced students from far-off places to take rented accommodations in Srinagar,” they said.
There is no hostel facility for the students which has caused a huge financial burden on the families of the students. “This is not an ideal environment to pursue any course,” a student said.
When the students were granted admissions in GMC Baramulla, they were assured of hostel accommodation with the premises of GMC, however, as of now, the hostel has not been provided to them, the students said.
They alleged that the work on the hostel was going on at a snail’s pace and JKPCC has missed several deadlines already.
Officials from GMC Baramulla admitting that the students were facing hardships said, “We give reminders to JKPCC every week to fasten the pace of work, however, it has not been made functional yet.”
They said that the college has rented some buildings to avail accommodation to the students from far-off places and buses will also be provided once funds are allotted for same.
