‘He was a Man of Principles, Sikhs Lost a Friend in him’- Dal Khalsa Mourns the Demise of Ashraf Sehrai

The Dal Khalsa mourns the demise of chairman of Theerek-e-Hurriyat Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai at Jammu hospital.

The separatist leader was booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) by the Jammu Kashmir administration in July last year and was presently under detention in Jammu prison.

On Tuesday he was admitted to GMC Jammu after his health deteriorated. As per reports, he was suffering from multiple ailments. He was considered next to Syed Ali Shah Geelani in the Hurriyat hierarchy.

Leaders of pro-freedom Sikh group from Punjab expressed their condolences on Sehrai’s death. They said he was a man of principles and commitment. They prayed before the Almighty to give strength to family members, Hurriyat  colleagues and people of Kashmir to bear the loss of their true representative.

Party Spokesman KANWAR Pal Singh in a statement said Sehrai Sahib was a genuine friend of Sikhs of Punjab. He said like the people of Kashmir, they too have lost their sympathizer and supporter. Sehrai Sahib was a towering political personality, who would be remembered for sacrificing his life for the just cause of Kashmir.

“Sehrai Sahib has left this world with the dream of independent and Sovereign Kashmir in his eyes”, said Dal Khalsa statement. Moreover, he has left his people at the time of leadership vacuum, when ailing Geelani Sahib was on bed and under house arrest and majority others under detention.

Originally a Jamat-e-Islami ideologue from the frontier district of Kupwara, Sehrai co-founded the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat along with Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
