In March last year, when Kashmir was seeing a huge surge in local youth being recruited into Militant outfits, a youth from Gandibagh area of Pulwama in South Kashmir joined Militant outfit Jaish e Muhammad.

Adil Ahmed Dar, a mason by profession also lead prayers at a local mosque before he went missing in March. His house today was visited by thousands of people in Pulwama shouting pro independence and Anti India slogans.

Adil Ahmed Dar, carried out the biggest attack ever in Kashmir as he rammed a car into a CRPF vehicle near Lethpora in Pampore area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday afternoon, killing at least 50 CRPF men.

The incident evoked widespread condemnation from major political parties in India and Jammu Kashmir as well. His father Ghulam Hassan Dar who is a farmer said that he was radicalized in 2016, when he was rounded up by CRPF men and thrashed severely by them in Pulwama. “They were also accused of stone pelting,” his father said.

“He was returning from the school when he was assualted by the CRPF men in 2016 after which he decided that he will join Militants, he, perhaps was looking for a chance, and that chance came in March,” his father said. The incident intensified his anger against the Forces, he added.

The family too mourned for the loss of their son, like the CRPF families mourned the death of their beloved ones. As officers continued to investigate the matter and politicians continued to condemn the violence, A family in Kashmir and families in India lost their loved ones.

A video released by Adil before he carried out Thursday’s deadly attack is being widely circulated on the social media. In this two minute video, Adil is heard saying, “Your oppression fuels our Jihaad.”

The Thursday’s incident evoked sharp reactions from people around India as hundreds thronged onto the streets in main cities including in Mumbai and Delhi expressing solidarity with the bereaved families.
