On Sunday, the powerful Shi’ite political party in Lebanon, Hezbollah said that they are open to discussing a new political order in the country if all factions agree to it.
The Foreign donors have been pressing Lebanon for reforms to tackle the country’s crises.
The Hezbollah backed government quit after the recent Beirut Port blasts and now the parliamentary consultations, to choose a new PM, is going on.
Syed Hassan Nasrallah, Leader of Hezbollah, in a speech said, “France’s president in his last visit called for a new political contract … We are open to any calm discussion for a new political contract but on the condition it take place with agreement from all Lebanese factions.”
Nasrallah further said that they are ready for “reforms to the wisdest extent” if there is a proper mechanism to it.
French President, Emmanuel Macron, has outlined reforms to tackle financial mismanagement and corruption.
The recent Government’s resignation has deepened the uncertainty in the country.
Hezbollah and its allies have a parliamentary majority. However, under Lebanon’s sectarian power-sharing system, the prime minister must be a Sunni Muslim.
Nasrallah has also called the Lebanese army to announce the results of its technical investigation on the Beirut Blast
