Hike in parking charges at DH Ganderbal irks attendants, patients

The attendants as well as the patients visiting District Hospital Ganderbal Friday said that the abrupt increase of parking charges has forced them to face immense hardships, saying that most of the attendants prefer to park their vehicles outside the hospital.

Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the attendants and the patients said car parking charges have been increased by Rs 10 at District Hospital Ganderbal.

Earlier, the attendants and patients were being asked to pay Rs 20 for parking their vehicles, but the charges have been increased to Rs 30,” they said, adding that the high parking charges at District Hospital Ganderbal has irked the people, as this is the only hospital where the high rates are being charged for parking compared to other health institutes in the Valley.

The hospital authorities recently floated a tender for the parking and fixed Rs 30 as parking fee for vehicles while only Rs 20 are being charged at other health institutes everywhere.

To skip the parking fee, the vehicles carrying patients drop them outside the hospital, which causes inconvenience to patients.

“With the increasing number of vehicles, the demand for parking has been on the rise in the district, especially in the last two to three years. To tackle this growing demand, the administration must set a check on parking charges,” said a local resident.

We appeal the district administration to intervene into the matter and revisit the rates charged for parking at an earliest, the locals said—(KNO)
