Historic Jammu Kashmir assembly session: Dates, schedule and everything you must know

After a six-year hiatus, the Jammu Kashmir Legislative Assembly is set to reconvene for its first session as a Union Territory.

The session is scheduled to begin on November 4, 2024, marking a crucial moment in the region’s political landscape.

This assembly session comes after the body was dissolved in November 2018, following political upheavals and subsequent changes in the region’s governance structure.

According to the provisional calendar, accessed by The Kashmiriyat, the first day of the session will witness the election of the Speaker at 10:30 AM, followed by the Lieutenant Governor’s address at 11:30 AM.

The following days, beginning on November 5, will include obituary references and discussions on the ‘Motion of Thanks’ to the Lieutenant Governor’s address.

The discussions will continue until November 8, 2024, with a reply expected on the final day.

This assembly session holds significant importance, being the first since Jammu and Kashmir’s special status was revoked and the state was bifurcated into two Union Territories in August 2019.

The region has since been without an elected assembly, making this a highly anticipated event in the political history of Jammu and Kashmir.
