‘Hit with an axe’: 30-year-old youth attacked by teenage brother in Pattan Kashmir

In Pattan area of Baramulla, a teenage youth attacked his own brother with an axe over a land dispute.

Locals told The Kashmiriyat that the dispute between the siblings in Hanjivera Pattan after which Muzaffar Ahmed Dar was critically wounded.

They said that on on Saturday afternoon a verbal brawl started between the two, which resulted in a heated argument and it soon changed into a physical fight.

“During the fight, Muzaffar was attacked by Sameer, aged 19, with an axe after which he had to be rushed to the local hospital in Hanjiwara in north Kashmir, where the doctors rushed him to the Srinagar hospital,” the locals said.

A senior police also confirmed the incident stating that Muzaffar Hussain Dar the younger son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar (30) was injured during in the fight. He said a case has been registered and further investigation has been initiated.

The crime graph in Kashmir has seen a massive spike, however, people of the region attribute these figures to the increased media reporting in Kashmir.

A total of 28,936 cases were registered under various sections of the Indian Penal code in Jammu Kashmir during 2020 against 25,072 cases during the year 2019.

As per the gazette 2021, The crime rate for the year 2020 remained at 216.90 per lakh population as against 189.41 for the year 2019. “The crimes these days are not only varied but also more complicated in nature. So, special focus has to be on crimes of terrorism, cyber and narcotics,” the then DG of Jammu Kashmir Police Dilbagh Singh said.
