The Union government is set to introduce multiple key bills in the Lok Sabha during the ongoing monsoon session, including the Jammu Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
According to the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, the bills listed for introduction on August 20 include the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Jammu Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025.
The JK Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill is expected to be a significant legislative move, coming at a time when the Union government has reiterated its commitment to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood after assembly elections are conducted. Once introduced, the bill will be referred to a Joint Committee of both Houses for further deliberation.
The agenda also includes consideration of motions related to these amendments, followed by a special discussion on India’s first astronaut abroad the International Space Station and the critical role of the space program for “Viksit Bharat by 2047.”
Any unfinished government business from August 20 will be carried forward to the Lok Sabha session on August 21.
While the exact content of the bills remains unclear, the development comes soon after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta assured the Supreme Court that the Union government would restore Jammu Kashmir’s statehood “at the earliest” following the successful conduct of assembly elections in the region.
Meanwhile, Ladakh has witnessed sustained protests demanding a legislative assembly, a demand the government has said it will consider positively.
