A graduate in Science, Rameez Raja had joined the Jammu Kashmir Police as his father Abdul Salam Itoo died five years ago while serving the Jammu Kashmir Police.
Early on Thursday suspected Militants barged inside the house of a BJP leader in Srinagar and the alert sentry which included Rameez fired on the attackers who escaped from the spot, however, Rameez was injured in the attack and rushed to the SMHS hospital in Srinagar, he succumbed to his injuries there.

His friend pronounces him to be a kind gentleman who always helped the needy and almost everyone around him.

As many as six thousand policemen lost their lives during Anti Militancy operations in Jammu Kashmir since the eruption of the Armed insurgency in 1989. deaths took place in the past year. By October 2020 last year at least 40 policemen were killed in militancy-related incidents in Jammu Kashmir.
There has been an upsurge of Militant attacks in the Kashmir valley this year despite many security arrangements been made. Suspected Militants recently in an attack managed to attack CRPF bunker on the Srinagar- Baramulla Highway near Lawaypora. Three CRPF men died in the attack.
