‘If I lose, It will be said that Islam lost’, says Jamaat e Islami backed candidate

Jamaat-e-Islami independent candidate in the Kulgam assembly, stirred controversy by suggesting his potential loss in the upcoming election would be interpreted as a defeat for Islam itself, Kashmir Dot Com reported.

In a campaign rally on Thursday, Sayar Ahmad Reshi stated, “If, God forbid, I lose tomorrow, people won’t say that Sayar Ahmad lost, but that Islam lost.”

He further emphasized the religious significance by adding, “It will be said that the followers of Islam, those who recite Adhaan lost.”

His remarks reflect the high stakes he associates with his candidacy, tying his political fortunes to the broader Islamic faith.
