‘Important to defeat unconstitutional forces’: Tarigami welcome NC- Congress alliance in Jammu Kashmir

Senior CPI(M) leader M Y Tarigami on Thursday welcomed the announcement of a pre-poll alliance between the National Conference (NC) and the Congress for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu Kashmir, calling it “a much-needed move.”

The alliance was announced by NC President Farooq Abdullah after his meeting with Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. Speaking to reporters at his residence, Abdullah confirmed that Tarigami would be part of the alliance.

“We welcome the announcement by Farooq Abdullah regarding the alliance of NC-Congress and the CPI(M) for the polls,” Tarigami told PTI.

He described the alliance as “a welcome development,” emphasizing its necessity given the current challenges facing the region since the 2019 abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of the former state into two union territories.

“It is time now that the secular parties act together and defeat those in power who have been doing away with whatever constitutional guarantees were there for J-K,” Tarigami asserted, adding that the alliance will also focus on addressing the livelihood issues of the people of Jammu Kashmir.

He further remarked, “The ordinary people have suffered tremendously since 2019, and the time has come to defeat the designs of the BJP regime.”
