The district president of BJP for the north Kashmir’s Bandipora district allegedly collected one Lakh rupees from the family for ensuring the release of youth undergoing detention in the north Kashmir district.

Aqib Khursheed, a youth had been detained by the Jammu Kashmir Police in Bandipora last week after which the family approached the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) leader who ensured the release of their kin and demanded an amount of one Lakh rupees.
Officials told The Kashmiriyat that the family had the sister of Aqib approach BJP leaders Abdul Rehman Tikri (BJP district president) and Manzoor Ahmed (Sarpanch) to help her in ensuring her brother’s early release.
“The duo exploited the situation and demanded Rs. 1 lakh promising her brother’s release,” they said, adding, that the Police received information about the development some four days back after which they initiated an investigation.
During the course of the investigation, it came to the forth that the BJP leader along with the Sarpanch had collected one Lakh rupees from Aqib’s sister. “The Police filed an FIR under the Number 64/2022 at P.S Bandipora under section 420 of IPC,” he said.
Both the accused are out on anticipatory bail and further investigation is going on in this matter.
Pertinently, this is not the first of its type incident.
In December 2020, A 100-year-old woman Monday attended a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rally in Baniyari village of Hajin in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district to get her son, who is languishing in jail since past 10 years, released.
The woman had said that some “Jan Sahab of BJP” has promised her that her son would be released if she attends the BJP rally that was addressed by the BJP national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain and other senior leaders of the party including Sofi Yousuf.
