In key parliamentary meeting, NDA passes resolution on Operation Sindoor and Mahadev

In a key show of unity and resolve, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution lauding the success of Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev, two recent military responses to terror threats, while expressing condolences to the families of those killed in the Pahalgam terror attack. The resolution also hailed the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was felicitated at the meeting for directing what was described as a “decisive and successful” anti-terror campaign.

Held at the Parliament Library Building, the NDA parliamentary party meeting brought together top leaders from both Houses, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President JP Nadda, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister Prahlad Joshi, and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut. The meeting opened with a standing ovation for the Prime Minister and chants of “Har Har Mahadev” and “Bharat Mata ki Jai” reverberating through the hall.

This marked the first NDA parliamentary party meeting of the Monsoon Session and comes just days ahead of the Vice Presidential election nominations, scheduled to begin on August 7. With the NDA commanding a majority in the electoral college, its candidate is expected to sail through. The meeting provided a platform for strategic discussions ahead of the poll, while also addressing ongoing disruptions in Parliament.

PM Modi, in his address to the gathering, responded sharply to Opposition criticism over Operation Sindoor. He defended the timing, scope, and success of the operation, and countered claims that the mission was prematurely halted. The Prime Minister also addressed questions about the number of Indian fighter jets deployed and the strategic restraint exercised by the Indian military.

On the Opposition’s repeated demand for the reclamation of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), both Modi and Shah invoked history, questioning the Congress’s handling of the 1965 and 1971 wars and its inaction after the 2008 Mumbai attacks. In contrast, the BJP leadership highlighted their government’s “strong and swift” responses to Uri (2016), Pulwama (2019), and now Pahalgam (2025).

The meeting also saw the introduction of newly elected MPs to the Prime Minister, reaffirming the alliance’s internal cohesion and shared political objectives.

While the NDA meeting projected unity and celebration, Parliament remained in turmoil. The INDIA bloc continued to disrupt both Houses, demanding a rollback of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. The Opposition has accused the Election Commission of conducting the exercise in a partisan manner to benefit the ruling alliance.

On Monday, disruptions led to the Lok Sabha adjourning without taking up key legislative business, including the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025, and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025. These bills remain pending.

On Tuesday, Opposition MPs from the INDIA bloc gathered in the office of the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha before staging a protest at Makar Dwar, Parliament’s main gate, under the slogan “Our vote, our right, our fight”.

According to the Lok Sabha Secretariat, Tuesday’s proceedings were to begin with obituary references to former MPs Tilakdhari Prasad Singh, Ram Rati Bind, and Shibu Soren. Later, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is scheduled to move amendments to the National Anti-Doping Act, 2022, and introduce the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025, for debate and passage.

The high-profile nature of the NDA meeting, coming at a politically charged moment, had triggered speculation across the country, and particularly in Kashmir, where the recent rumours have reignited debates on statehood,, autonomy, and trifurcation.
