India Celebrates 70th Republic Day, As Streets, Internet Remains Caged in Kashmir

January 26

As India celebrates its 70th republic day on 26 January 2019, hundreds of republic day functions are being commemorated across the country.

Narendra Modi, the Prime minister of India will hoist the Indian tri colour flag on the Red fort in New Delhi and the chief ministers of various states will unfurl the flag at state capitals.

While most of the people throughout India are celebrating the day, people in Kashmir hardly have any reason to celebrate.

Mobile Internet services have been gagged in Kashmir valley while hundreds of Government Force personnel are patrolling the streets.

Hundreds of checkpoints have been enacted across the valley and by passers are frisked.

“People have been confined to their households, with no internet and streets turned into garrisons of Army men, there hardly is any reason to celebrate,” a tweet read.

In what has become a routine, Internet services were snapped across the Kashmir valley early on Saturday morning.

The military setup has been beefed up across Kashmir valley especially in the summer capital Srinagar in view of the Republic Day of India (January 26) function to be held here.

All the entry and exit points under close vigil while some important roads suspended for vehicular movement.

Meanwhile the Kashmir valley is observing a complete shutdown on the day to call upon the international community to resolve the Kashmir imbroglio.

Kashmir, the Himalayan region has been contested by both India and Pakistan, the neighbours have fought three wars over the region claiming their stake over it.
