India on Wednesday launched Operation Sindoor, a series of precise strikes on terror infrastructure across the Line of Control, days after the Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives, including one Nepali national.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Defence, nine locations identified as terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK) were targeted.
The strikes were described as focused and limited in scope, aimed specifically at dismantling facilities linked to cross-border terror planning.
The operation, the ministry said, was carefully calibrated. No Pakistani military installations were struck, reflecting what it termed a “non-escalatory” approach. The objective, it added, was to act against those responsible for the Pahalgam attack without widening the conflict.
A senior official familiar with the operation said that high-precision assets and real-time intelligence were used to identify and strike the selected sites.
“The operation underscores India’s commitment to addressing the threat of terrorism with clarity and restraint,” the official said.
The Pahalgam incident, which took place over the weekend, drew strong reactions both domestically and internationally. Security agencies had since intensified efforts to trace the origins of the attack and those involved in its planning.
A detailed briefing on Operation Sindoor is expected later today.
This is a developing story.
