Amid heightened tensions along the India-Pakistan border, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Saturday described India’s approach as “measured and responsible” following a phone conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The call came as military confrontations between India and Pakistan intensified, with both sides reportedly targeting each other’s installations.
“Had a conversation with US @SecRubio this morning. India’s approach has always been measured and responsible and remains so,” Jaishankar wrote on social media.
The US State Department, in a statement, confirmed the call and said Secretary Rubio stressed the need for de-escalation and the resumption of direct communication between the two nuclear-armed neighbors to prevent miscalculation.
“Rubio also offered US support in facilitating meaningful dialogue to prevent future flare-ups,” said State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce.
The conversation between the two top diplomats comes at a time of growing concern over rising civilian casualties and continued cross-border shelling, particularly in Kashmir’s border districts.
