The Islamic State killed five pro-Palestine fighters affiliated with Hezbollah in Syria, a war monitor reported.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) stated that the fighters, part of the linked to Hezbollah, were ambushed by ISIS cells in the desert region between Ithriya and Khanaser in the central Hama province.
An unspecified number of Hezbollah-aligned fighters were also injured during the assault.
Hezbollah, along with other pro-Iran factions, often is referred as “the Axis of resistance,” particularly in the context of its broader political stance as a pro-Palestine movement.
SOHR did not specify when this attack occurred.
In a separate incident, three members of the pro-government National Defense Forces were injured in the al-Tabni desert area in the eastern Deir ez-Zor province.
According to SOHR, the attackers were suspected to be members of ISIS cells.
ISIS attacks appears to be on pace to more than double in 2024. The group claimed responsibility for 153 attacks in Iraq and Syria during the first half of the year, compared to 121 total attacks across both countries throughout all of 2023, as reported by The Associated Press in July. Most of these attacks were carried against Pro Palestine fighters and other Muslim centric militia.
