Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq have strongly criticized Israel’s recent land seizure near the occupied Golan Heights, calling it a violation of Syria’s sovereignty and international law.
The condemnation follows large-scale Israeli attacks across Syria, including strikes on key military infrastructure and airports.
Israeli forces have carried out extensive airstrikes targeting three major airports and other strategic military sites, including in the capital, Damascus.
The offensive marks a sharp escalation in Israel’s military campaign following the overthrow of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad by opposition forces.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the military actions, stating they were necessary to address emerging threats near Israel’s borders. However, UN peacekeepers accused Israel of breaching the 1974 ceasefire agreement that established the buffer zone in the Golan Heights
Meanwhile, toppled Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s prime minister announced an agreement to transfer power to the opposition-led Salvation Government, headed by Mohammed al-Bashir.
In another grim revelation, the family of prominent Syrian activist Mazen al-Hamada confirmed that his body was found in the infamous Sednaya prison.
The recent Israeli incursion into the Golan Heights has drawn sharp criticism from Arab states. Qatar’s Foreign Ministry labeled the move “a dangerous development” and a violation of international law.
Saudi Arabia accused Israel of sabotaging Syria’s chances for stability and reaffirmed the Golan Heights as occupied Arab territory.
Iraq also denounced the land grab, urging the UN Security Council to take decisive action.
As tensions mount, the international community faces increasing pressure to address the dual crises of escalating violence and the uncertain future of post-Assad Syria.
