With Night patrols and concertina wires beefed up in this South Kashmir district, people from distant areas were seen running towards their natives in the afternoon as Government Force personnel took control of the Polling stations in this South Kashmir township.
on Monday afternoon, the entire township wore a deserted look as hundreds of government Force personnel and their vehicles started doing rounds of the Islamabad (anantnag) township ahead of the Lok Sabha 2019 Polls that are scheduled on Wednesday.

Vehicles of Government Forces personnel are moving around the entire district in large convoys, shops and other business establishments shut early today in apprehension of any violent incident, clashes erupted at a few places including the Mehandi Kadal area, after which the Government Force personnel disallowed civilian movement in that area.
Other than Mehandi Kadal, hundreds of youth also attacked a polling party in Walerama area of Pahalgam in South Kashmir. “Scores of youth threw stones on a polling party in the area amid Pro Zakir Musa and Anti Election slogans.” Youth also attacked a polling booth in Magraypora area of Achabal.
Youth also attacked Polling stations in Trahpoo Achabal, Clashes erupted in Souf Shali, the native of slain Lashkar commander, Bashir Wani in Kokernag belt.
“It is getting impossible to move it, with the amount of security movement on the streets,” Irfan, A local from Lal Chowk area of Islamabad (anantnag) townhsip told The Kashmiriyat.
Mobile Internet services have been snapped in the entire South Kashmir region that is going to polls in three phases, keeping in view the overall security situation of the valley which has deteriorated since 2016, July 08 after the killing of Burhan Wani.
Thousands of troopers have been deployed across 714 Poling stations in the district spread over 6 Assembly segments comprising Islamabad (Anantnag), Dooru, Kokernag, Shangus, Bijbehara and Pahalgam.
This South Kashmir District has 529256 electors including 269603 males, 257540 females, 2102 service electors (2091 male and 11 female) and 11 transgender voters. For smooth polling, the ECI has setup 714 polling stations in the district.
The South Kashmir’s Islamabad (anantnag) district is going to polls first in the three-phased schedule for Anantnag Parliamentary constituency on April 23 from 7AM to 4 PM.
