J-K: Of the 136 murder cases in 2021, in 10 cases motive behind murder was ‘Love’

In the year of 2021, One hundred thirty six (136) cases of murder were registered in Jammu Kashmir with 164 victims, among which the motive behind 10 cases was love affairs, NCRB data reveals.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau, Union Territory of Jammu Kashmir has registered 119 murder cases in the year 2019 and 149 cases in 2020. While in 2021 year, the 136 murder cases were registered. It says the rate of murder in 2021 was 1.0 and the charge sheeting rate was 79.9.

The report, a copy of which lies with The Kashmiriyat, states that among other motives behind the murders, the extremism/insurgency motive tops the list with 30 cases registered. Other motives were, Family dispute 18 cases, property/land dispute 15, personal vendetta or enmity 13, love affairs 10, child/human sacrifice 01, communal/regional 01, for political reasons 02, honour killing 01, illicit relationship 03, petty quarrel/dispute 04, other causes or motive 13 and blind murder/no clue/motive not known were 25 cases.

However, In gain, dowry, witch craft, casteism, class conflict, during dacoity/robbery, gang rivalry psychopath/serial killing, sale of body parts, money dispute, water dispute, due to accident on roads motive, there was not a single case registered in Jammu Kashmir.

As per data, 157 victims belong to Adult category with 131 males and 26 females. While as, seven (07) cases belong to child victim category with 06 males and 01 female.

The age group 30 years to 45 years tops the list with eighty-three victims, seventy-three male and ten female. Followed by 18 years to 30 years with forty victims, male thirty-one and female nine. 45 years to 60 years with thirty-two victims, twenty-six male and six female.

Below 06 years with two male victim, 06 years to 12 years with two victims, one male and one female. 12 years to 16 years with two male victims. 16 years to 18 years with one male victim. 60 years and above with two victims, one male and one female.

The total victims in both child as well as adult are 164, in which 137 are males and 27 are females.
