A resident of Jammu displayed exemplary humanity by bringing a Kashmiri driver who suffered a heart attack from Jammu to Anantnag district in south Kashmir.

Several years ago, Gopal Krishan started a small tea stall in the Jammu city nearly two decades back when Yousuf, a driver from Kashmir introduced drivers from Anantnag to his tea stall. With time, all the drivers developed good connection with Gopal which helped his business flourish.

Yousuf used to visit Gopal habitually on all his travels to Jammu and with time, the two developed a great relation. On Saturday, during one such visit to Gopal’s eatery Yousuf suffered a heart attack and died on the way to the hospital.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat family of Mohammed Yousuf Dar, who was a resident of Kanzgund in Batengoo area of Anantnag said that Yousuf was having tea at a small eatery when he suddenly suffered a cardiac arrest.

They said that Gopal completed all the hospital formalities after trying his best to save him and then brought his body back to Anantnag, nearly 250 kilometeres away from Jammu.

“Upon noticing that Yousuf had fallen unconscious, Gopal who runs Sharma Dhaba in Jammu rushed him to the hospital when others had not even touched him during Gopal’s absence at the Dhaba. I had actually gone to the Railway station for some work. My son called me and told me that Yousuf (who he called uncle) had fallen unconscious. Without wasting a second, I rushed Yousuf to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead,” Gopal said.

He told The Kashmiriyat that at the hospital, a legal heir was required to take away the body. “So, I brought one of his relative and later got the dead body to Anantnag on my own expense so that his last rites could be performed,” he said.

Gopal said he is under extreme grief and has been staying at the home of Mohammed Yousuf Dar since Sunday.
