The water level of the Jhelum at Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar has begun to recede after remaining above the danger mark overnight, offering slight relief to residents and authorities.
Continuous monitoring by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department indicates a steady downward trend in the river’s height.
According to official readings, the water level at Ram Munshi Bagh was 21.03 feet at 1:09 AM and gradually fell to 20.53 feet by 7:09 AM.
Officials noted that while the receding water is a positive sign, the river remains close to the danger level, and vigilance is still required in low-lying areas.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg said that field teams continue to monitor water levels in real time and are ready to respond to any sudden rise. Evacuation plans and emergency response mechanisms remain in place.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reviewed the situation early this morning, ensuring that food, medicines, and safe shelter remain available for affected families.
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha also directed officials to maintain close coordination with the Army, SDRF, and NDRF to provide relief and safety measures to those in vulnerable areas.
Authorities have advised residents, tourists, and people working near rivers and streams to continue exercising caution until water levels fall further. The Emergency Operation Centre remains active, with helplines 0194-2502254, 0194-2950767, and 10170 available for assistance.
Rains are expected to persist intermittently across Jammu Kashmir, and the administration has urged people to follow official advisories and avoid unnecessary travel near rivers or water bodies.
