In a press release, party Party GS Ali Mohammed Sagar_ expressed deep concern regarding the severe ration curtailment in Jammu Kashmir, highlighting the potential consequences such as increased poverty, stunted growth in children, and widespread malnutrition among the general public.
NC said that the current administration is preoccupied with photo opportunities and ceremonial events, ignoring the distress and suffering experienced by the people.
“The reduction of Kashmir’s ration quota by the Government of India has resulted in a rice crisis, with significant repercussions,” Ali Mohammed Sagar said.
He said that, as per the scheme, BPL (Below Poverty Line) and PHH (Priority Household) ration cardholders were entitled to receive 5 kilograms of rice per person at a subsidized rate of Rs. 3.
“On the other hand, APL (Above Poverty Line) ration cardholders were receiving the same quantity of rice at a higher rate of Rs. 15,” read the press release.
Unfortunately, people are facing delays in receiving their rations, leaving them without rice to eat, he added.
“Moreover, due to the scarcity, they are unable to afford purchasing rice from the open market where prices are exorbitant,” he said, as per the press release.
