Months after clearing the written examination for constable posts in the Jammu Kashmir Police, thousands of aspirants remain in a state of uncertainty as they await the next stage of the recruitment process. Despite the passage of over five months since the results were declared, the Jammu Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has not released the list for the Physical Endurance and Standard Test (PET/PST), triggering widespread anxiety among candidates.
Scores of these aspirants have written to The Kashmiriyat, urging that their concerns be brought to public attention. In one such message, a candidate wrote that he was speaking on behalf of thousands who appeared in the exam and who have been preparing for the PET/PST stage with full dedication. He said the absence of updates was causing immense stress among hopefuls who had put in years of preparation for government service. The message added that the delay and silence from the authorities had made many fear for their futures, as their hard work seemed to be going unnoticed.
The written examination was conducted on December 1, 8, and 22 of 2024 to fill 4,002 vacancies in the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The results of this written exam were published in mid-January 2025, and candidates had expected a smooth transition to the physical test stage. However, the recruitment process appears to have stalled. Aspirants say that even after months of waiting, there is no clarity on when the PET/PST phase will be conducted or which candidates have been shortlisted.
Several of those who reached out said they were not asking for special treatment or favours, only for basic transparency. One of them said, “We are not asking for favours. We are only asking for transparency and timely communication.” Another noted that the uncertainty was affecting their mental health, saying that the lack of a clear timeline made it difficult for many to focus on further preparation or make other life decisions.
On social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, candidates have been tagging officials and urging JKSSB to release the shortlist and announce the schedule. One user wrote, “We are unpredictable of our selections. Please release the PET/PST list and conduct tests as soon as possible.”
According to the candidates, the next steps in the recruitment process after the PET/PST include medical tests and document verification. But without even the PET/PST list being published, the entire process remains on hold. JKSSB’s official portal, as of now, carries no notice or update about the issue, and candidates have been advised to keep checking the site for further announcements.
As the delay stretches into a sixth month, the lack of clarity is no longer just a scheduling issue—it has become a major source of stress and disappointment for thousands of young people across Jammu Kashmir, many of whom are waiting for their first chance at stable employment.
The Kashmiriyat will continue to follow the story and reach out to the concerned authorities for a response.
