‘Jobs for cash’: Man allegedly dupes Kupwara residents, locals seek action

Locals in Kupwara today caught a fraudster outside DC office Kupwara who has duped crores from more than 15 people.

The fraudster identified as Riyaz Ahmad Sofi, a resident of Pulwama has allegedly duped money worth crores with the false promises of providing a job in army/CRPF.

After catching the fraudster, the locals handed him over to the police.

Speaking to the media, they alleged that he has looted one and half crore rupees from several locals, adding, he is himself an employee of CRPF.

According to locals he has one more partner working with him named Khazir Mohammad War, who is a resident of Budgam.

One of the locals said that he, (Khazir Mohammad) said that after 2019, there are some sections where our officer in CRPF has a say, we can employee anyone on those posts. “Trusting the duo, dozens provided then money to avail jobs for their children, however, the job never came back, nor did the money,” said a local.

The locals appealed the SHO Kupwara to take cognizance into the matter so that they will get justice.

“Many took a loan from banks. I sold one Kanal of land to pay him so that he will give me a job. I gave him six lakh,” a local woman said.
