Kashmir AIIMS to be made functional next year: LG Manoj Sinha

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Friday said that AIIMS at Jammu is fully functional while the one at Awantipora in Pulwama district will be made functional next year.

“Till 2014, there were only three medical colleges in JK, but with Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji’s interest, seven new medical colleges were sanctioned in JK. The AIIMS in Jammu is fully functional and the one coming up at Awantipora will be made functional next year,” the LG said as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

The right to health for all without discrimination is the commitment of the Jammu Kashmir admin and for around 67 years, people of J-K faced persistent neglect of healthcare, the LG said.

While addressing a gathering at the inaugural function of ‘Jashn-e-Sehat two-day health conclave at Jammu LG Manoj Sinha said that right to health for all people without any discrimination is committed by the government and it is being ensured that every citizen is being treated with respect and dignity whosoever needs medical attention.

At a time when many developing nations are mulling over Universal health coverage, PM Modi has taken steps to ensure equal access to health services without financial hardship.

People of Jammu and Kashmir faced persistent neglect of healthcare in absence of any government health insurance scheme, however, now health insurance has been provided to all, and public well-being is always at the centre of our policies.

It is being ensured to make lives of common people easy and it is being ensured that even last pending person is covered under all developmental scheme.

He said that work on seven medical colleges, two AIIMS, 2 State Cancer Institute’s, 2 bone and joint hospitals and more than 300 health infrastructure protects is going on besides that 15 nursing colleges will be started in this financial year, he said, adding that around 1000 people are getting treatment worth two and half crore daily by using golden cards.

Around 92 percent families in the J&K have at least one Ayushman card and it is being ensured that everyone is covered under the scheme.

Several Deputy Commissioners along with CMOs and other officials were facilitated for outstanding work and achievements.

Many senior officials including Administrative Secretary H&ME Department were present on the occasion—(KNO)
