Kashmir doctor wins top award at global endoscopy congress

Dr Hameed Raina, a gastroenterologist and therapeutic endoscopist from Chadoora in Budgam, has won the Best Abstract Award at the 4th World Congress of GI Endoscopy (ENDO 2024) held in Seoul, South Korea.

He was honoured for his presentation on “EUS-Guided Liver Biopsy,” a technique offering a safer, less invasive alternative to traditional liver biopsy methods. The method allows access to both liver lobes and simultaneous evaluation of oesophageal varices.

ENDO 2024 brought together over 5,000 specialists from around the world.

Dr Raina, an alumnus of GMC Srinagar and SKIMS, has trained at several international centres and introduced many advanced endoscopy techniques in Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. He currently performs procedures including ERCP, cholangioscopy, POEM, and bariatric endoscopy, and is the only doctor in the region offering several of these services.

His latest recognition further highlights his contributions to global gastroenterology.
