Kashmir Highway- in Pictures- Hundreds Stranded on the First day of Highway Ban

The Kashmir highway wore a deserted look on Sunday as the Government imposed a two day ban in a week, Sunday and Wednesday,” to ensure safe passage of Government Force personnel convoy.”

Sources told The Kashmiriyat that no vehicles plied on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway on Sunday as hundreds of Government Force personnel stood guard to prevent vehicular movement on the national Highway.

Government Force personnel deployed on the Highway cleared the highway of public vehicles and other private transport early morning on Sunday near Awantipora, Qazigund, Khanabal, Sangam and in Pampore, Sources said.

Meanwhile the local administration has said that people in emergency will be allowed to travel on the National Highway even on Sundays and Wednesdays, though they did not define an emergency.

Amid this what Mehbooba Mufti, the former chief Minister called a “dictatorship,” passes are being issued to those who are travelling on the Kashmir highway. In a similar incident, a pass was issued by the office of Deputy commissioner in Islamabad (anantnag) district of South Kashmir to a family that was travelling to Doda on the Kashmir Highway.

A curfew pass was issued by the DC office of the South Kashmir district in the name of one Danish Ali and to his twelve companions with the registration number of the vehicles precisely mentioned in the pass.

Sources at DC office said that anybody travelling on the National Highway will be issued a similar pass on Sunday and Wednesdays.
