Kashmir Shuts in Remembrance of Afzal Guru

Restrictions have been imposed in most of the towns in the Kashmir valley on Saturday as the valley has shut down from North to South against the hanging of Afzal Guru.

Guru was hanged and buried in Delhi’s Tihar Jail after he was convicted of hatching a conspiracy of an attack on Indian parliament.

In Pulwama township, the Government Forces have imposed restrictions as a large number of troopers are standing guard around the main town to thwart any protest, reported Jahangeer Ganie.

A Complete shutdown is being observed in the district amid pro Freedom Taranas in many Masjids.

In Shopian township, the Government Forces are standing vigil to protect any “Untoward” incident.

Our Shopian Reporter Sikander Gul reported that the vehicles of Government Forces are doing round of the entire township.

From Kulgam, Mohammed Ashraf Ganie said that the Kulgam township has been placed under strict restrictions as movement of vehicles is being heavily checked.

Educational Institutes, Railways and Oil stations are closed in the entire district.

In Islamabad, the vehicles of Government Forces are on all the main points of the township.

Government Forces in large numbers are standing vigil to thwart any kind of protest.

In Srinagar too, Khan Ovais reported that strict restrictions have been imposed in the down town areas.

From North Kashmir towns including Kupwara, Sopore, Baramulla, Budgam, Handwara, Bandipora our reporters said that Government forces have been placed in all the major townships to thwart any kind of protest demonstration.

Railway Services have been suspended in Kashmir for two days and educational institutions have also ordered closure.
